Chickens Eating A Mouse

Dislike 0 Published on 29 Nov 2013

Most people don't know that chickens love to eat mice, but if you think about it, just like hawks, eagles and other large birds, chickens have the beaks to tear apart these diseased, horse feed, eating rodents. When the cat ran about 30 mice out of the feed room. Jessica video taped this footage of her chickens going crazy over the mouse she dangled in front of their face. Excellent chicken food! Sorry if this is too graphic. I guess you are either rooting for the hens and rooster or the mouse. If the chicken didn't get the mouse first then either the cats or the copperhead and rat snakes would. The music featured in Chicken Eat's Mouse video is Bizet's Carmen, No.1 Prélude.

Chickens are omnivores.[10] In the wild, they often scratch at the soil to search for seeds, insects and even larger animals such as lizards or young mice.[11]
Chickens may live for five to ten years, depending on the breed.[12] The world's oldest chicken, a hen, died of heart failure at the age of 16 according to the Guinness Book of World Records.[13]
Roosters can usually be differentiated from hens by their striking plumage of long flowing tails and shiny, pointed feathers on their necks (hackles) and backs (saddle) which are typically of brighter, bolder colours than those of females of the same breed. However, in some breeds, such as the Sebright, the rooster has only slightly pointed neck feathers, the same color as the hen's. The identification can be made by looking at the comb, or eventually from the development of spurs on the male's legs (in a few breeds and in certain hybrids, the male and female chicks may be differentiated by color). Adult chickens have a fleshy crest on their heads called a comb, or cockscomb, and hanging flaps of skin either side under their beaks called wattles. Collectively, these and other fleshy protuberances on the head and throat are called caruncles. Both the adult male and female have wattles and combs, but in most breeds these are more prominent in males. A muff or beard is a mutation found in several chicken breeds which causes extra feathering under the chicken's face, giving the appearance of a beard.
Domestic chickens are not capable of long distance flight, although lighter birds are generally capable of flying for short distances, such as over fences or into trees (where they would naturally roost). Chickens may occasionally fly briefly to explore their surroundings, but generally do so only to flee perceived danger.

If you arrived at this video looking for Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) or Chicken Recipes, maybe I will add some videos later, but we have been raising chickens for their eggs. I have another video showing how to boil eggs.http://youtu.be/MVNcI7dEcS0 I'll post a chicken salad recipe since that is a hot topic on youtube along with chicken noodle soup. I personally like Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), but I go through the drive through for that and keep my live chickens as pets.

What do I need to raise pet chickens?
============================
Start with building a chicken coop and make sure there is a chicken run at least double the size if not more than the hen house. Make sure there are no spaces or holes in the chicken wire that a fox or other predator can get through. Make sure the chicken wire is buried deep enough around the chicken run that a fox can't dig under because they will. Build your chicken coops or coop then talk to a feed store about what is the right chicken feed for your Roosters, hens and/ or chicks. (I'll post a video later how we made a chicken coop with cheap and scrap wood). Get the feed specific to what or how you are raising your chickens. Now that you are set to fill your coop, you can start looking for chickens for sale. The local newspaper classified ads or the trading post is a great start. You can go right to the internet too, but it may be harder to narrow your search to your area. Check out chicken tractors too. Chicken tractors make a safe and portable way to move your chicken's scratching area while protecting them from predators.

Please subscribe to channel if you slightly enjoy the horse farm antics. We do from time to time show educational and informative videos. Although this video is education if you didn't know chickens love to eat mice.
