Buying chickens from a hatchery through the Mail.
Preparing for and picking up day old chicks from the U.S. Post Office, what do expect http://www.FredsFineFowl.com A short video demonstrating the importance of picking up your mail order chicks as soon as possible. They do suffer stress and require immediate attention and a proper environment. Some Post Offices frankly don't care about shipped chicks... it's up to YOU to provide your contact information and be prepared to go immediately to the post office and pick up your chicks when notified. I've heard all the stories of chicks left on loading docks while just ten feet into the building would have changed the temps 30 degrees. I've also learned that at times, people order chicks and then just don't feel it's convenient to go get them, or even forget that chicks are arriving on a certain day. Our Post Master shared with me that one woman just said "just give them away, I can't deal with that right now"... Please, don't order chicks unless you are prepared and willing to care for them when they make the trip.
