Mallard Ducks Take Over Our Pool

Every year, sometime in mid-March, a pair of Mallard Ducks show up in our backyard to swim on our pool cover. They eat the debris that has fallen from the trees, bathe and drink the water. When our pond thaws out, they take turns flying back and forth from the pool to the pond. This year, a second male mallard ( a Drake) decided to tag along. This has created a comical scene in our yard every morning as the two males try to win over the heart of the female mallard (the Hen), who doesn't seem very concerned. From what I have read, Drakes will stay with their mate until the eggs are hatched or right before. The Hen can take care of the ducklings herself, so some Drakes decide to move on, but others stay to defend their young. Although the mallards have been coming to our backyard every year for a number of years now, we aren't sure if they are the same ducks and we have never found a nest or eggs. I think they just like to swim, eat and have fun. It's been very entertaining this year!
